175 years of iron and steel
The three-year, £1.6 million British Steel Archive Project completed in December 2010 and catalogued thousands of photographs and documents relating to Teeside's iron and steel industries. Here are some of the images from the collection.
In April 2008, the British Steel Archive Project, led by Teesside University in partnership with Teesside Archives, was launched with the aim of increasing awareness of the British Steel Collection through an extensive collection of photographs, maps, ledgers, deeds and other documents relating to the area’s iron and steel industries.
The three-year, £1.6 million project was completed in December 2010 and involved sorting and listing the entire archive by company name and type of record to create a catalogue that could be accessed by everyone. These lists were then entered into an electronic cataloguing system, which can be viewed online at www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/teessidearchives
