The official website for BBC History Magazine

Jon Bauckham

I’m Jon, production editor at HistoryExtra. I edit content for the website and print magazine, but my main responsibility is managing HistoryExtra’s Apple News channel, where I create and curate articles for millions of readers around the world. Whether it’s news of a groundbreaking discovery or a gripping piece of historical storytelling, I’m always on the hunt for features that bring the past to life for the widest possible audience. When I’m not writing or editing, you’ll find me hosting episodes of the award-winning HistoryExtra podcast, chatting to experts about topics ranging from Hungarian serial killers to public transport. One of my proudest achievements is presenting the three-part series D-Day: Land, Air and Sea, released to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy. I’m a writer and editor with more than 13 years’ experience working for the UK’s best-selling history titles. After beginning my career at Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine, I joined the HistoryExtra team in 2019, where I have undertaken numerous roles across print and web. In 2025, I won the ‘Best Subbing/Production Team’ award at the British Society of Magazine Editors Talent Awards, alongside my colleague Spencer Mizen. The past has always been my passion. Before entering the world of publishing, I graduated with a first-class honours degree in history from the University of Bristol, and I have since also completed an advanced diploma in local history from the University of Oxford.
